Hey, this is exciting. I've done my first-ever application of fiberglass to, uh, anything. It involves spreading out some fiberglass cloth, trying to get it really smooth, and then saturating it with epoxy.
All sorts of difficulties arose. I'll get to those. For now, though, I'll just share some pix. First, the bottom panel (on the outside of the hull), coated with fiberglass and epoxy. It was kind-of nerve-wracking, but it went okay.
Next, the three bottom panels -- that is, the bottom panel and the #1 strakes -- glassed on the inside of the hull. There was some cursing in here, an important part of the process I think. But it worked. The splotches on the #2 strakes are just where I spilled bits of epoxy, which I cleaned up with denatured alcohol. I hope.
In these pix, you may or may not notice that the strakes no longer extend beyond the transoms. I sanded them down flush after 'glassing the hull exterior, and before flipping the boat back upright so I could do the interior. I also filled in the little gaps that had been left around the transoms, as well as the stitch-holes on the transoms, with wood flour-thickened epoxy. Wow, lotsa steps. How'd I get into this?
Next step: I hafta put a couple of coats of clear epoxy on the inside of the hull. I can do it. After the 'glass cures. In a couple of days. Now I have to get ready for the work week. Ugh.
